Over on Freelance Folder there is an amazing post that talks about improving your productivity, and really it centers around reducing your distractions. Something that can be quite difficult, but also very important.I find myself struggling with this periodically because my office is at home, and currently so is my wife, but there are some great points in the article.

Here is a sample:Work in a separate room if possibleLast year I moved to the sitting room to keep an eye on the baby while my wife worked on her computer; this was because the computer could not be moved around and I had a laptop. But soon it became a free for all situation; everybody in the house needed my attention or my counsel for everything. There were times when I could only achieve three to four hours of professional work during the whole day.

And of course the baby always wanted to be on top of my table and bang on my laptop keys. Eventually I had to take a stand and move to a separate — fortunately a spare — room.Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like a separate room is enough in our small house, and I might have to look at an office share or something so that I can get the peace and quiet

I need to focus on producing a large amount of amazing content for everyone to read.Definitely a great post over on Freelance Folder, and a great site for bloggers, and really all types of freelancers.Bookmark:If you enjoyed this article, please Subscribe via RSS and don't forget to Monetize Your Site (aff link)

TNX.net Review: New Text Link Broker

Ma.gnolia DiggIt! Del.icio.us Yahoo Furl Technorati Reddit

There are many different programs you can use to buy or sell links, but the new service on the Internet is TNX.net. They are heralding themselves as the place to

buy links and want to become the premiere text link marketplace. They have a fair bit of competition though, with the popular Text-Link-Ads and other such services pushing their products on consumers. They also have what will now be an uphill battle, with Google, and most likely other search engines starting to penalize sites that buy and sell text link advertisements as a way to game search engine rankings.Advertising is the key to getting your message out into the marketplace, and selling advertising makes it easier to devote more time to your blog but is TNX.net a company you should be considering? What Others Have SaidThere have been many posts around the web on TNX.net, and so if nothing else, the service has gotten the buzz of the blogosphere behind it, showing that there is a need for another service such as this. Here are just a few articles that have mentioned TNX.net:
The Blog HeraldCourtney TuttleInvestorBloggerNetBusinessBlogCashQuestsDigital Point ThreadMy ThoughtsI have been a long time Text Link Ads customer, and that is because it was a fast way to make what I considered a fair amount of revenue for the work and time that I had put into my site, and even today, despite all the search engine issues, I highly recommend their product. Can TNX come close to replacing TLA? I am not sure, but I do think that competition breeds invention and will hopefully just give us bloggers another way to monetize our sites.
The GoodTaking a page from Microsoft’s Live Marketplace and other similar systems, TNX uses points, which can lead to a huge disconnect between the amount you are paying and the value of the money you have put into the system. It can be much easier to part with points than with dollars. I think this was a smart move, and not only for TNX, but also for bloggers looking to use this system to monetize their blog. Getting people to part with money can be quite difficult. Hopefully, they won’t realize how much money they are parting with when it’s in point form. The design is relatively simple, but effective.
I would have gone with something even more professional looking, as their competitors have spent a fair bit of time and money tweaking their designs and coming late to the game usually means you have to step beyond your competitors, especially in appearance. I still put this in the good section, because the site is quite usable, and not unpleasant to look at.The system seems to be rather easy to use, and allows you to focus your link buying on certain sites, by a variety of quality indicators. This can mean that sites with lower rankings might not sell well on this site, or make much money when they do sell links, but it makes it easier as an advertiser to hit powerful sites where your link will be shown to a large audience.
Affiliate ProgramIf you love to be part of an affiliate program, and are good at getting people to sign up below you, TNX has you covered there as well. When you refer webmasters to TNX.net, you get 13.3% (as long as your account is active) of all TNX-points that are generated by their websites. In addition, you will receive 5% of all payments, made by referred advertiser. That can grow to be a large amount of advertising for your blog, or a fair bit of cash in your pocket. Nothing wrong with that, especially since the program continues as long as your account is active. Over time, that can be a fairly nice revenue stream. My ConcernsOf course, as with any of these programs, you have to do your due diligence and research these companies to death. TNX.net hasn’t been around very long, and so the search engine implications are not yet truly known, but its competitors are having a rough time dealing with Google. This could mean that by advertising, or selling advertising, on your blog, that eventually you will be manually penalized by Google and if they are a major traffic source for your blog, you could be trading traffic and Google PageRank, a factor in many advertising programs valuation systems, for a few bucks from links.

Conclusion
Whether you check out TNX.net or not, buying and selling text links is here to stay, and TNX is a quickly growing marketplace, and for people looking to monetize their blogs, it is worth checking out if TNX suits your needs.

The Five P’s of Improving Your About Page

Your about page can be more important than you think. When visiting a site, I sometimes check out the about page to see if the writer has bothered to put up anything. Sadly, sometimes the default WordPress about page is all I find. If the blogger isn’t willing to write anything on their about page, you can probably place money on the fact that they won’t remain interested in blogging for a long period of time, and you should probably move on to another resource. Here are some pointers to help you in creating or improving your about page.PictureI know it seems odd, but if the blog is about you, or one specific product, for example the Nintendo Wii, it doesn’t hurt to put up a picture of yourself or that product. When it is your picture you are putting up, the image can help you in creating branding, as Darren Rowse has done for a long time now. When people that read his site see his picture, they know what site it goes with. That is a very powerful thing, and one that shouldn’t just be cast aside. If the site is about a specific product, the about page should reflect that, and an appropriate image should be added. This adds character to the page, and helps draw attention to the text near it. The image also has the ability to quickly, easily, and without any need for language translation sum up what the site is about. If I see a Nintendo Wii on the about page, either the writer loves the system or the blog is probably about the game console.PurposeWhy does your site exist? What do you hope to do with your blog or website? This is the key reason to have an about page. While people may think that content can stand for itself, a good about page will also help you keep that content focused. I refer back to my about page all the time to make sure I have stayed on topic.PowerYour statements should be bold and interesting. Your about page is a key marketing material, and so it should be given the time and respect that it deserves. This is the page people will read in order to find out more about you. Maybe it could earn you a job. Maybe it could lose you a job. You never know who is reading your about page, so it is best to put your best foot forward.PersonalityIn your about page, you have a chance to correct any errors that people might have had about you. I know that a friend of mine, Chris Garrett always gets confused with Chris Garrett. They are not the same people, and so they need to make sure every about page they write has an abundance of their personality, as well as following the other rules to make their pages unique.PromotionYour about page is a great place to feature your best content, favorite posts, and other sites you are or have worked on. This is a great place to deep link the articles that might have otherwise been missed. If the site is about you, then you also get to promote yourself. What makes you someone readers will flock to? This is your chance to talk about yourself.SummaryWith the above tips and a little creativity, your about page can help promote your site, your brand, and yourself. Make sure you take your time, plan it out, give it your best, and a proper picture never hurts.

Four Reasons to Avoid Free Blog Hosting

One of the biggest mistakes I see many bloggers making is jumping on one of the free blog hosting sites expecting to make thousands of dollars a year and becoming an Internet celebrity.LimitationsThere are limitations with using free tools. WordPress.com doesn’t allow advertising, nor does it allow you to add plugins. For some, this isn’t an issue, but it can become a real concern later on as your site grows and changes.Search EngineDo you want to be considered your own blog, or another of the millions of Blogger blogs? You like having Typepad as part of your domain and thus your branding? These are the things search engines will notice as they index your blog. If you are using your own hosting, and your own domain, you wouldn’t have to deal with what I consider to be search placement killers.OutagesToday a friend of mine, David Krug, messaged me and said “Typepad is down”. I went to check it out and sure enough I couldn’t access any of their hosted blogs. Even their actual company website was down for me. While not all web hosting companies have great uptime. at least you can easily leave if they are constantly down. By joining a free blog service, most of the time you are locking yourself into that service, through its good times and bad.ControlBlogs are a constantly evolving and changing beast of your own creation, and while some free services can be great early on, they lack the control that independent solutions provide. If Blogger decided to close your blog, would you have a backup of your posts? These are just some of the reasons that I implore you to avoid free services just to save a few dollars. You can get great web hosting for cheap, and if they have a script called Fantastico, you can install WordPress, the same software used here, in one click

Google PageRank Penalty: Text Link Ads

Well, it looks like Google is cracking down on paid links, and some people are being hit hard with their rank dropping. The Stanford Daily saw their PageRank drop from an incredible PR 9 to a PR 7.I have yet to hear one person say that their rank has gone up. This doesn’t mean that people won’t see their rankings rise over the next while, but Google is on the warpath against paid links. It looks like Text-Link-Ads and similar companies might have a huge issue on their hand, and if nothing else, it can’t be good publicity, since the majority of their pricing is based on Google’s PageRank, and people buy these links in hopes of gaining PageRank to their own sites.I have yet to experience any negative side effects on any of my blogs, but I am a very lightweight advertising sales person. I think I currently have one text link sold amongst all my blogs. So far many of the sites owners I have talked to aren’t concerned about their dropping rankings as they continue to focus on bringing good content and an abundance of traffic to their sites, but over time this could become a competitive edge for those willing to forgo selling text links, and monetizing their blogs other ways. These sites that find these alternative revenue builders, could then eventually rank higher in Google, causing those selling links to re-think their lack of concern. The question I have been getting quite often by people just entering the world of advertising sales is, “how does Google know I am selling text links?” Well, with systems like Text-Link-Ads and other text link sales companies, they have you put code on your site, and that leaves a footprint that Google can then search for, and once identified, and probably checked by a real person, they can adjust your PageRank accordingly. The whole paid link market has to change, Google is forcing them to. It is a very interesting time to be an Internet marketer.

Read More Links or Full Posts?

Don’t you hate it when blogs take forever to load due to the dozen full length posts including images that the person has decided to put on their front page, and every page of their blog? You wonder if it is worth it to stick around to see what they have written.Or how about when you go to a blog that shows only the title, and the first few sentences, and asks you to click read more on every single post? Feels like you have to jump through hoops just to read their content. The choice to only show summaries or full posts on your blog can be quite difficult, but each has its advantages and disadvantages. I try to have the best of both worlds. The DecisionOne of the things that I have done here at Xfep is to make sure posts on the front page show the full post, and after they transition to other pages, I only show a summary. I did this for a few reasons, including search engine optimization, and better presentation of my previous work.People have questioned me about this practice, as I do it on all my blogs. Why don’t I make all the pages show full content? Well, with having full posts on every page, you begin to delay page loads, and making people wait is a bad idea. Also, most people don’t read past a few paragraphs unless they really enjoy the content. There are also search engine benefits to limiting your duplicate content as much as possible. If I wanted even more search engine optimization benefits, I wouldn’t show any full articles, except on the single article’s own page.Doing this has some negatives though, as using a system like mine means that readers are interrupted during their read of an article. They must perform an action to continue to the end of the post, and this turns some people off. Also, we come back to the waiting issue once again, as when people do find the article they want to read, they have to wait for that full page to load.I find though that the positive aspects of the system that I use outweighs the negatives. The StepsIf you want to do what I have done, and automate the whole process, I can show you how I do it. It might not be the best way, but it works for me. Please feel free to give me tips or tricks you might have, if you know a better way.I will assume you are using WordPress to publish your blog. I am sure other systems can do something similar, but this will show how to make pages two to infinity show partial posts, while the main page shows full articles.Once logged into your WordPress administration panel, go to Presentations and then Theme Editor.Over in the right hand side, you will see a list of files. We will want to edit the Main Index Template, also known as index.php.If you are unable to edit the file inside the WordPress administration panel. You will have to FTP into your hosting space and download the index.php file from your theme’s directory. In this file we are looking for the code that allows us to show the post content. The line should look something like:We want to change this so that we test to see where we are, and that will determine how the content is displayed. The below basically says that if we are on the home page, page one, the search page, single page, or content page, we should display the full content, otherwise, we should show an except.Once you update the file with the new code, replacing the old one line content code, your first page should show full articles, while every other page should show only excepts. A great way to boost the search engine optimization of your site, and display teasers to your posts in a quick loading fashion.

The extraordinary uses of pepper

Stop a car radiator leakA heat wave has hit your town, and your aging, leaking car radiator isn't too happy about it.

If it's overheating because of a small leak, pepper can help. Before you bring your car to a mechanic for a more thorough repair, pour a handful of pepper into your radiator. It will temporarily plug the leaks until you can get some help.

Use as a decongestantIs your nose stopped up? Are your ears plugged? Do you have a cold? Forget the over-the-counter medications. Nothing gets things flowing again faster than some cayenne pepper. Sprinkle it on your food and grab some tissues.Keep colors brightThat new cherry-red shirt you just purchased is fantastic, but just think how faded the color will look after the shirt has been washed a few times.

Add a teaspoon of pepper to the wash load. Pepper keeps bright colors bright and prevents them from running too.Get bugs off plantsThere's nothing more frustrating than a swarm of bugs nibbling at your fledgling garden. Just when things are starting to pop up, the bugs are there, chowing down. Mix black pepper with flour. Sprinkle around your plants. Bugs take a hike.Deter deer from your gardenYour freshly budding garden seems as if it's ringing the dinner bell for the neighborhood deer.

They'll find another place to dine if you spray your bushes with a cayenne and water mixture.Keep ants out of the kitchenTwo or three of your annual summer visitors have invaded your kitchen. Those ants are looking for sugar. Give them some pepper instead. Cayenne pepper sprinkled in spots where the ants are looking, such as along the backs of your countertops or on your baseboards, will tell them that no sugar is ahead.Kill an ant colonyIf you find the ants' home colony a little too close to yours and it is causing them to relocate to your kitchen, cayenne pepper can help get rid of it. Pour the pepper down the ant hole and say so long to ants._________________

HOME REMEDIES FOR DARK CIRCLES UNDER THE EYES

Dark circles under the eyes tell us about the health of an individual. They are produced due to overstrain, after an illness or an allergy. They can also be the result of undernourishment. But these dark circles do not produce any harm to the body. So anybody with dark circles should not worry about them. In fact, sometimes they're not even an indication of physical problems.

Dark circles can be aggravated by fatigue, allergies, overexposure to the sun, menstruation or pregnancy. But they're usually hereditary; if your parents have them, there are more chances that you do, too have them. Dark circles are the result of the engorged blood vessels under your eyes. Because the skin under eyes is thinner than skin anywhere else on body, therefore blood vessels there are more noticeable, especially in fair skinned persons.

Usually, dark circles are caused by hyper pigmentation of melanin, the substance that gives color to the skin. In western countries, the kidneys are related to the adrenal glands and with stress levels in life being so high; these glands are very often exhausted. When these glands are weakened, allergies are prevalent.

Dark circles under the eyes are known to be a classic symptom of an allergy, together other signs including edema and fatigue. Dark circles under eyes may also be due to aging which thins the skin around the eyes. Eight hours of sleep is essential. Do not leave cream on the skin around the eyes for long periods. Circles under the eyes can worsen in people who smoke or suffer from allergies.

HOME REMEDIES FOR DARK CIRCLES UNDER THE EYES Apply a cold compress this will help to constrict blood vessels and turns tissue white, and dark circles will lighten. Drink at least eight to ten glasses of water everyday. Put slices of raw potatoes or cucumber by closing eyes over the eyelids for 15-20 minutes. Wash with warm water and apply a cream. Take out the juice of the cucumber. Prepare a mixture of lemon juice, lanolin cream and cucumber juice and apply around the eye for 10-15 minutes.

Prepare a mixture by adding equal quantity of potato and cucumber juices. Dip a cotton swab in this mixture and put the cotton on eyelids and keep for 20 minutes. Wash your eyes with cold water. Prepare a mixture of lemon and tomato juice (equal parts) and apply it on the black circles 2 times a day. Make a paste of turmeric powder with pineapple juice for dark circles under the eyes. Apply crushed mint around the eye. Another home remedy for dark circles under the eyes is - massage with almond oil under and around eyes at bedtime daily for 2 weeks. Almond helps to remove dark circles.

No cream should be left on the skin around the eyes for long periods. Rub the area with a powdered Vitamin E capsule and wash off with a mixture of honey and egg white. Put hot and cold clothes alternatively under eyes for 10 minutes. Then apply some almond oil on the dark circles before going to bed. The acupressure point for eyes is on the mount below the index finger of your palms. Pressing this mount may help. Dip some carrot leave in hot water and leave for a few minutes. Drink the liquid 3 times a day before meals. Dip cotton balls in rose water or cold water and keep under the eyes for 10 minutes.

Make a paste of 1 tsp. tomato juice, 1/2 tsp. lemon juice, a pinch of turmeric powder, and 1 tsp. of flour. Apply around eyes. Leave on for 10 minutes before washing. This is an effective home remedy for dark circle treatment. Take some freezed parsley. Use the parsley cubes instead of eye creams to reduce the dark circles and puffiness. Parsley is packed with chlorophyll which helps fade darkness, while the ice cubes reduce the swelling. Takes vasoline, put it on a metal spoon and freeze it for 15 minutes.

Then apply it to the eyes for a few minutes. Add some mint leaves, lemon juice, and salt to tomato juice and drink. Grate some cucumber and freeze in an ice tray. Massage frozen cucumber cubes onto eyes to reduce puffiness and dark circles. Avoid excess of chocolates and try to take more fibres in the diet.

To prevent dark circles take 2 magnesium tablets per day, especially if you're taking calcium. Use a sunscreen especially made for the face with a sun protection factor (SPF) to keep the sun's rays from darkening the skin under your eyes Eat vegetables and fruits rich in vitamin A for the treatment of dark circles under eyes.
